Gangtok is the capital of the mountainous northern Indian state of Sikkim. Established as a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the 1840s, the city became capital of an independent monarchy after British rule ended, but joined India in 1975. Today, it remains a Tibetan Buddhist center and a base for hikers organizing permits and transport for treks through Sikkim’s Himalayan mountain ranges.
Arrive at NJP Railway Station / IXB Airport & transfer to Gangtok (5,480 ft.), the capital of Sikkim. Check-in to hotel & rest of the day is free at leisure. Shop around at M.G. After a sumptuous breakfast visit Tsomgo Lake (12,400 ft.) & Baba Mandir (13,200 ft.) which is 55 kms one way from Gangtok city. Spend overnight at hotel in Gangtok. (If due to landslide or bad road condition Tsomgo Lake is closed then alternate sightseeing will be provided). This day explore the places in and around Gangtok town covering Flower Show Complex, Directorate of Handloom & Handicraft (Sunday Closed), Do-Drul Chorten Stupa (Deorali), Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (Sunday Closed), Deorali Ropeway Ride, Gunzang Monastery, Bakthang Falls, Tashi Viewpoint, Ganesh Tok & Banjhakri Waterfalls. After sightseeing enjoy the evening at MG Marg and nearby local markets. Overnight at Gangtok. NOTE: Some points may be closed due to weekly or weekend off as per Govt. of Sikkim Tourism Rules. Today get ready early morning by 4 a.m to witness the spectacular sunrise over Mt. Khangchendzongha (28,208 ft. ,World’s 3rd highest peak ) at Tiger Hill. Its a destination by itself offering not just great views during sunrise; its a place where you can soak yourself with Himalayan serenity anytime during the day. Thrill yourself by visiting World famous Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop on your way back. Batasia Loop is fascinating to watch the toy train with its way round the loop. The War Memorial constructed in the memory of brave sons of Darjeeling who died in different wars since 1947, is worth a visit. A glorious view of snowy peak and town can be seen from this place. After a sumptuous breakfast visit Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, P.N. Zoological Park (Thursday Closed), Tenzing Rock, Tibetan Refugee self-help Centre (Sunday closed) Tea Garden, Japanese Temple, Peace Pagoda and Ropeway (Ticket cost not included and will be approx Rs.180 per person-directly payable).
